Waited out the rain today. Got a pa14 2 weeks ago but the weather just hasn't cooperated. Got out on the water at hogtown at about 12. Tried mirro lure suspended twitch bait then switched to top water catch 2000. Nothing all afternoon. Heard the thunder rolling in so headed back in and home at 4.I saw one nice sized red in a narrow canal but spooked him off before I could get him to bite. Anyone have any good advice for me? New to saltwater fishing. There was bait everywhere though.

Just gotta keep after it. Just recently bought an outback myself. I've saltwater fished for years now and mostly all my fishing was done wading or from piers and bridges so when I got the yak I felt like a newbie. It can be very discouraging to be sitting on a couple thousand dollar kayak with 100's of dollars of tackle and gear and not catch a single fish, trust me I know... What I've come to realize is you just have to put your time in on the water and find the fish. The more time you put it the more you learn. That's the process I'm in right now. Good luck too ya!

Thank for the advice. I'm going to stay at it.

How salty is the water around hogtown bayou? With all of the rain we have had, I wonder if that part of the bay isn't pretty fresh.

It was real fresh. Gave it a little taste test and I couldn't hardly taste any salt. Went to alligator point Sunday and ended up catching three catfish. At least I caught something though.

I would like to fish the gulf. Just wanted to take the kayak out and get a little used to it first. I've been once in the gulf last year. I was thinking about giving it a try this weekend.
