Default Simpsons 6 Jan

Interesting day. Got on the water at a leisurely time this morning - 8 am. Pedaled out to the usual trout spot but little was happening there. Managed two - one on a swimbait and one on a Mirrodine. I had not used the Mirrodine much, but after reading reports that the 808 color (silver with black top, red belly) was hot, I bought one. First cast, trout. Guess it's good.

Moved over to some flats and was still chucking the Mirrodine and a red just crushed it. Brought it to the boat - the lure was all the way down, no way to get it out, so this one went home for dinner. Measured at 24". While I was struggling to get the hook out, I drifted into the shoreline. Shore looked sandy enough, so I thought i would get out of the yak to transfer the red to my fish coooler. Bad idea. Sank up to my knees and quickly stumbled back to the yak. Louisiana rule #1 in effect - don't get out of the boat. After a few minutes of mud washdown, it was time to fish.

Switched to a Skitterwalk and worked my way down the shoreline. Came to a spot where the topwater was get hit 2 or 3 times on every cast, but no hookups. Put on the trusty swimbait and hooked up with a 26.5" redfish. By now I was cold and headed back to the launch.

300 yards from the launch and the drive fails - one of the fins came loose. This has happened once before, but this time I had the right size allen wrench with me and fixed it on the water. Sweet. All in all a good day.

Nice! Just curious, how do you rig that swim bait? Just a worm hook?

The Powerbait or Storm swimbaits are already rigged - just tie it on. I was using the 3" size. They are excellent for trout or redfish.

Oh those, couldn't really tell from the picture of it in the fish mouth. I've seen those for a long time, typically made by SPRO. Thanks

Nice report, good pics and fish! Sounds like a good morning other than the quicksand, lol.
