Default Simpson's 12/11/15

Hadnt been out in over 2 months, had the day off so I dropped off my son at school, loaded up and headed out on a beautiful day. On the water about 10a, spent the next 30mins making my way to the area I wanted to fish over near Saultzman's cove, throwing an xr08 & rip n slash along the way but nothing, very few mullet jumping, no signs of bait around, wind was picking up, tide moving out.

Found a point shielded from the wind, switched to my lightest setup with a 3" soft plastic swimbait bouncing it along the bottom. A few casts later I set the hook on something and off we go. Lots of head shakes and after being drug about 50yds back up the channel, it turns around but surfaces enough for me to see, it's a bull.

Long story somewhat short, I spent the next 45mins+ fighting it & the wind which also included my taking one dunk in the water due to impatience. Twice I had it within 2ft of the yak & thought it was defeated but couldnt get my hands or the fishgrip on it before it ran again. After reboarding with 60lbs of mud in my pants and a tight line, I thought the fight was still on but seconds later my 8lb mono gave way. I would guess it was in the 40-44in range. I wound up on a shoreline about 500 yards from where I originally hooked up. I dropped an atomic F bomb so if anyone overheard, I apologize.

Spent a bit cleaning mud, sticks and snails out of my butt & the yak. Fished some shorelines as I headed back to landing, wound up with 4 bass, 3 small reds and an 18" speck, it came home for dinner. Off the water about 2p to get my son. Sorry for the "one that got away" story.

Sounds like you enjoyed yourself! The one that got away is the reason we all keep casting.

Nice photos.

East side of hwy 90 about a mile South of the kayak launch. Its marked on Google maps, just scan that area right along hwy 90.
