Default Rocky Bayou 4/28

I made a last minute trip to Rocky Bayou right after work since the weather looked decent. Short specks were schooled up together and aggressive. Landed 7 shorts specks, 3 rat reds, 21" red and a 24" black drum on white gulp and live shrimp on a popping cork. Tried switching tactics to see if I could find a flounder and had a couple bumps that felt right but couldn't get a hookset. Was a gorgeous evening. Had a couple short specks hit tiger bait matrix but spit the hook on the way in. The bite was hot until the sun set then it shut down, even on dock lights and underwater lights. I think they were feeding while they could still see because the water was very dark and clouded.

Bigdady, g40 and olegator like this.

Yup, that's where I was getting the bumps that felt like flounder. Had something big break me off on a dock piling next to the channel as well, felt like a bull red. Didn't pull any specks out of it. The water coming out of there is pretty nasty with an oily sheen from all the runoff and filled with lawn cuttings, leaves, etc.

I actually caught a very small cobia on a gold spoon at the mouth of that canal a couple years ago too. Very strange to see one that far inshore. Great pictures and glad to hear that the fish are in the area again.
