Default morning bass fishing

Had a lil time before work, pushed the kayak off shore @ 6:30.

I was throwing some of AZ’s homemade creature baits, black n blue, rigged weightless and weed less.
Wind cooperated this morning and pushed me parallel to shore allowing me to fish more than paddle.

I had 6 strikes in 1-1/2 hrs. But only managed 1 good hook set to end up landing just this 1 bass. She crushed my bait as I tossed it on shore and pulled it into water. I saw her wake as she rushed from about 6 ft., waited till I felt some weight, game on!

My kayak photos suck! Doesn’t do her justice, Looks like she has spawned out, anal gland red & slightly extended, tale was red from her pelvic fins all the way back to her tail.

Not a bad way to start the day in my opinion.

Good fun!!

See any beds?

What kind of hook are you using? Hookup ratio doesn't sound too great.....

Nope, with the wind couldn't see real good though.

It's not the hook, it's me and those lil creature baits. The bass seem to hold on to these things till you think they've gotten them in their mouth...plus, If I wait too long they are buried in 3 ft. of weeds and I can't get them out.

Always practice!

I generally run a EWG Worm hook on creatures, with the largest possible size before there's now more material to rig it weedless.

If your punching mats do you run straight braid?

Not a expert on those baits but a light wire hook works the best for me. It is hard to get a good hook set in the kayak with a heavy hook. Congratulations on the fish!

Thanks AZ, you were right about aging those baits, they got much tougher.

I'm using a light wire offset hook for a very streamline presentation, mainly for weed protection. I was just "quick on the trigger" this morning, too much coffee, lol.

Nice fish. Is that an ultimate fx you're fishing from? Like it?

Yes, it's the ult. FX, I like it.

It floats on spit, paddles easy, is light enough to lift w/o getting a hernia. Seat is comfortable, I've been in this for as long as 4 hrs. w/o issue.
