Default Lower Escambia River trips

Wednesday / Late Feb, launched about 10am in pretty heavy winds, trolled a while but nothing to show. Found a point with a strong crosswind so parked and a couple casts later had the first bass in hand. Went on to land about 10 more between 12p-1:30p, lost a few also. All caught on a 3in soft plastic swim shad within a 20 yard radius where there was a dropoff from 2 to 6ft. My wife wanted dinner so I took no pics on the water but took home the limit pictured here. Off the water at 2 to go pickup my son.

Saturday the same week, took my son back to the same spot. Launched about 1:30pm, wind was strong but out of the South this time. He caught a few bass while freelining shiners & a 19in red on the same 3in swim shad. I caught a few rat reds under a popping cork on fiddlers I scooped up at the launch and a couple bass on soft plastics. All released.

Sunday 3/6 - More of the same, several bass on various soft plastics but none had very good size, all released. On the water about 1pm, off by 4 after snacking on a tuna kit that didnt sit well. That was a miserable trek back into a strong headwind feeling nauseous.

Tues 3/15 - Daylight savings time finally kicked in so I took a late afternoon trip after work, on the water about 4pm, off by 7. Caught a couple small bass then right at dusk I was about to call it quits when this fat 25in red put up a fun fight, then came home for dinner. Found it had a belly full of blue crabs inside.

Looks like you had a good time, would rather eat the smaller bass than the big ones.
