Default Kings 10/12

Kind of a late report, but I've been out of town for work. Last Friday tmber8 (Matt) and I decided to try our hand at chasing kings in the Gulf. We went out about 2pm and bumped into bbarton13 and MVann126. They were headed in for the day and gave us a quick report. We caught some live bait and started trolling. Between me an tmber8 we landed 5 decent Kings and 3 spanish. Lost a couple more fish, including one really good spanish right at the kayak.

The best part of the day was that when Matt was hooked up with a king, I saw a sailfish about 30 yards in front of me slash through a school of what looked like ballyhoo or something. It was to this day the coolest thing I have ever seen on the water. I almost peed myself just seeing the sail and bill come out of the water, I can't imagine how awesome it would be to actually land one of these beasts.

Now I just need a Hobie so I can troll more rods at once!

What a good day that was. I have to admit, I never thought we were going to make it back to the truck before dark...mainly because the hull of your kayak was holding several kings and 5 gallons of water! But also because every 5 minutes we had another fish on. Next time we won't travel 3 miles from the truck when the bite is that good!
