Default King of the Island / Calcutta question

first, I'd like say that I had a great time fishing the tourney. I am new to the environment of fishing tournaments, so I really don’t know much how things work.

These are the only two species of fish I caught all day (besides a handful small trigger fish). Pictures below

I was under the impression that a red snapper CPR (catch picture release) was the only thing I had, so I was somehow excited about it. Pic was sent via email, but when I asked if my pics was received they said that yes it was ,but that my name was not in the Calcutta for that category.

I really thought that the 50 bucks I paid included the PCR for my red snapper…lol

I am not complaining here, neither am I asking for anything other than some education about how the Calcutta part works.

Thank you all for putting the event together.

That is an awesome Black Snapper. How long was that thing?

About Calcuttas. They all work, based on the way the tournament rules committee sets it up. It may have been covered in the Captain's meeting. In my experience, you have to put something down on each type of fish but don't know how they had this set up.

What did they say that you were in for?

The Calcutta was set up as a side bet you put 10$ in each species pot you want to bet on and winner takes all

Yes, calcuttas are side bets.

Wish I could have fished it.

Usually, the Calcuttas are just for species that the tournament applies to. I read the entry forms for the tournament and it seemed that it was only a Sailfish, Kingfish, Spanish Mackerel, Mahi-Mahi, Tuna, Cobia and Wahoo tournament.

What did you understand when you put money in the Calcutta?

they had a red snapper category I'm sure, but didn't chip any money for it....i missed or didn't hear that calcutta part for the tourney. I just paid the entry fee, thats' all... Like i said no big deal, funny thing is i thought i had "something" the whole time....lol

Now i understand it better. Thanks.

You did have something. You had a great time with some good people and you ended up with a really nice Grey Snapper to eat. Plus, you got some good tournament education.

Calcutta is technically a side bet among the captains and not actually part of the tournament. Since they happen at practically every tournament, the tournament itself helps with it, but really have no part in it other than holding the money and making sure there's a clear communication among the anglers. In some tournaments, the Calcutta is a larger payout than the tournament itself.
