Default Grayton beach state park

Anyone ever launched out of the state park? I'm trying to get on the gulf, just wondered where the best access point is.

I've never taken my kayak out there but it should be easy from the main access by the Red Bar as long as you have wheels or a helper. The beach comes right to the road, no dunes or anything.

You can put in to western lake via the park then paddle the outflow. Normally the outflow is really close to the gulf so its not a long drag. But, right now the outflow leaves a longer drag to the gulf than I've ever seen. Its still better than any other access in the county though. There is plenty of good fishing out there, I caught a bunch of spanish there last week.

How long does it take to paddle from the boat ramp in the park to the inlet? I also just learned there is a ramp in the town of Grayton beach but it doesn?t have much for parking.

East of the Red Bar maybe 2 blocks is a small boat ramp with parking for about 6 or so cars. Get there early and no issues for parking. The gulf is a 5-10 min. paddle to the south from there. Follow the outflow and then drag your rig over the sand to the gulf. I haven't seen the outflow bar in a long time. Might be a good idea to recon the day before by parking south of the Red Bar and walking out to the waters edge to check it out.

right now the sand between western lake and the gulf is broader than I've ever seen it. Its a long drab it its all flat and fairly compact so it isn't bad. Normally its a very short haul over the sand from the lake outflow.

I fish Grayton, Topsail hill preserve state park, and Henderson a lot. Henderson has the easiest drag, or you can just launch from the public access at The Back Porch. As of 12pm today, there are hundreds of blackfin schooling around the urchin reef.
