Default First trip out in the gulf

Me and a friend headed out early Tuesday morning south of Gulf Shores just off the beach to troll around for a few hours. Caught this guy on a dolphin colored stretch. Took me for quite a little ride, a lot different than the reds and specks I've been catching inshore.

Not bad for the first trip out in the gulf.

Nice fish. How do you like the Ascend? I have the same kayak and love it so far, but it is my first one so I really cannot compare it to much else. I have taken it in the gulf twice, once I ate crap on the way in and the other I went through the Destin pass which was scary.

I'm loving it so far. It's definitely on the heavy side dragging it through the sand, but it's great in the water. I ended up swimming it out past the breakers on Tuesday, they were breaking just a little big for me and I didn't want to lose anything.
