Well, I finally had some personal time and decided to try my luck in the Gulf on Saturday. Launched next to the Okaloosa Pier about 7am. It was a little bumpy with the westerly wind and the some 5-6 foot rollers mixed in with the chop. Trolled cig-cycles for three hours with only two hits. The first was unusual in that after hitting my bait the fish first ran towards the yak. Once I got tension on the line it turned and headed away. The line starts arching towards the surface and then the spinner shark launched itself out of the water in a tight spiral which snapped the line. Disappointed but glad at the same time. An hour or so later the second hit. This time the fish stayed down and was like moving a rock. No big runs until it got near and under the boat and then it took off. I was thinking either another shark or a lost cobia. After 20 minutes, got a look and it was another shark - possibly a sandbar. Eventually got him alongside and cut the leader close. Stowed my gear and headed in after a good fight. Not the results I was hoping for but it was good to get back on the water.
