Default Finally found the flounder again

After getting on them good a couple times the bite went cold. I had a few trips with only a few flatties each trip...not today!

I met Ginzu on the beach this morning with high hopes. The bite was slow for the first couple of hours and the wind was blowing pretty stiff out of the east making me wish I had stayed in bed. But it was like some flipped a light switch and they turned ON! We each got our limit only keeping 14"+ fish. We probably threw back another limit or two worth of fish trying to get bigger fish. We'd keep them alive in our splashwell and because we were catching them so fast we'd toss the smaller ones back when we got a bigger one.

It was a great day on the water!

Good eats there. We fished a spot Saturday and caught 5-6 of those Mother in Law fish on consecutive drops. Place was covered in them. Flounder didn't have a chance at the bait.

That is a healthy looking Toadfish/Oysterfish/Mother in Law fish you have there JD. What a coincidence that just today the PNJ ran an article about the invasive Lion Fish, and how local divers have found Toadfish eat Lionfish:

"He and other divers in the Pensacola area have noticed toadfish eating lionfish. Next year, he and student volunteers will begin lab tests to see if toadfish could be a natural predator for the problem fishes. However, he said toadfish alone do not have the numbers to stem the lionfish invasion. “Toadfish are not a magic bullet,” Turpin said. “They are only one means, one piece of the puzzle. Lionfish are so much of a problem that toadfish cannot be the only solution, it takes a number of different solutions".

Looks like a great day. I've got the fever but every time I plan a trip, the gulf looks like a washing machine. Let me know if you ever want a tag along.

After seeing your reports, I'm looking forward to Spring when the flounder return to the bays and flats from the Gulf.
