Default Esc. & Blackwater-2-24-18

Escambia & Blackwater-2/24/18

I launched before daylight on Esc., fished about 2-1/2 hrs. then relocated to Blackwater until 11:00.

The top water bite in Esc. was pretty good at daylight and for the next 1-1/2 hrs. I was using a floating rapala and working it almost dead stick. A bass fishing trick I learned decades ago. What is cool about this is the trout almost always come out of the water when they hit it, makes some awesome strikes!

After moving to Blackwater, the top water bite continued but the larger trout were all caught on an MR-17. In Blackwater, the trout were moving quickly through the shallow water, so you had to be keen on when and where to throw, it’s a mullet thing.

I think the total tally in approx. 4 hrs. of actual fishing time was around 15 trout & 2 rat reds. They ranged from 12” to the biggest being 22” & fat. They averaged 16-18”.

Fishing wind like we had today is a challenge. Knowing the area and how wind moves bait and fish makes all the difference.

Thanks Jason.
Yep, I saw 'em also, that's when I decided I'd rather deal with some wind instead of boats.

A few times, but nothing to brag about. I caught a 27 inch speck and some nice reds back in the fall, but 2018 has not been good for me. Several videos on my channel: http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCrZc...JrnVnFw/videos
