Default Enjoying some time off!

Well, I've had a crazy month of work so I decided to take this week off and fish. Couldn't get any of my bros to join me *cough YAKNTAT cough* but I decided to make the best of it. I missed the huge King run at Navarre last week, so I decided to head out there tuesday morning. It was flat and beautiful as I put in at sunrise.

It's tough to beat that view, but someone has to do it. The next four hours were spent peddling in a left turn about 200 yards off the end of the Pier. I was dragging a deep diver yozuri and a cigar rigged on a duster. Nothing, nada, zilch. But I made a new friend.

This guy was a little odd. Most turtles we run into in the gulf spook easy and take off when they notice you. This guy came right at the yak and swam around underneath it several times. He got bored of me eventually and took off. Spent another couple hours trying other stuff and managed to get 1 small spanish (23incher). Meanwhile, I am watching all the people on the pier pulling up little spanish left and right. I called it a day at 3 and headed out. No Cobia sightings.

This morning a decided against better judgement to hit my fav spot in Destin. After dealing with 98 traffic for an hour, I managed to launch at around 730. Dropped in a duster cigar rig and a jig/spoon rig to troll on the way out. Small swells from the SE kept the going slow, but no sooner had I dropped in the rigs when I heard my drag start screaming on my Stradic. Pulled in my other line as fast as I could and by the time I turned around the fat bobo had almost spooled me (4000 with 15lb PP). After a good long fight I got him in, along with 2 others that followed within minutes. Then I get my first King of the year. Not a bruiser, but still a decent fight.

An hour later I get to my spot and start dropping bait to the bottom. I'm catching hell trying to stay over the position when bam!

Pretty sure I lost another one of these that dragged me into structure. Ended up catching a dozen small Snapper as well. This was the biggest.

Eventually, I go through all my bait. Note to self, stop using refrozen stuff, it gets ripped off too easy. I keep two cigars to troll back with. As I hit the 50ft mark the first cigar gets slammed, but the hooks miss. The next one doesn't, and it's a hoss King. Easily four feet long and hasn't missed a meal. After a 15 min fight I get him to the side of the yak, and in my rush to get him in, I grab the leader to yank him over. You can guess what happened then . Oh well, he lives to bite another day. Sorry bout the novel, but thought I would share. Tight Lines!

I think I saw you this AM heading east. I was putting in by the candy store as you went by.

Next time you head out that way and dont have any one to go with let me know. Was it you with the kayak cart that waved at me as I was loading my yak on my jeep?

I too got caught in the traffic in in between Navarre and FWB.
