Default Destin Pass 11/4/2014

Decided to take the kayaks out today and see what we could do. Was hoping for some blackfin tuna and some kings, been seeing a lot of bft recently just haven't been ready for them, of course now that we came prepared for them we didn't see one.....

Launched at the bottom of the Destin bridge and headed towards the pass. Was a little rougher than we were expecting but nothing we couldn't handle. Put out some cig-cicles once we were out of the pass and headed to the buoy's to try and make some bait. No strikes on the way to the buoy's but there was plenty of bait, mostly cigar minnows and some small hard tails thrown in.

I rigged up a live cigar minnow and trolled a couple hundred yards away from my buddy Jeff and decided to stop and just drift some live baits for a couple of minutes and throw my trusty jig fish to see what was hungry. Didn't have any hits on the jigfish but after about 5 minutes of drifting my calcutta starts screaming!! Time to fight!!!

After a sick first run of drag-burning, line screaming action I started to pack some line back on to my reel before he decided to scream off again on an even longer run. Made steady line on him until he was right under my yak and he burned some line for a couple of seconds, he did this a couple of times before he was beat and it was time to introduce him to Thor's Hammer.

Didn't have much luck besides the one king. Saw a school of bonito busting but as soon as we saw them they were gone. Also got to watch my buddy Jeff get slammed on his free lined live cig, but he didn't believe me when I told him and ended up getting bit off All in all it was a good trip, got my new personal best king.
