Default Destin Kings

Took the day off today and took my first trip in the gulf. I came away with 2 kings. Both caught on live cig with no duster, in 35 ft. the bigest is 34" the other was 28". It was a beautiful day on the water, can't wait to do it again.

Nice! Glad you were finally able to get out there and have some good fishing on your first trip in the gulf. Wish I could've tagged along.

It was nice out there today, it was a little hard to get bait though.

The last few times I've been out I've seen a lot of bait but getting bites on the sabiki seems harder than last year. I've tried a few different brands and sizes of sabiki as well as different techniques on the jig. I'm thinking I might try tipping with small pieces of shrimp next time to see if that speeds things up. Maybe my rigs aren't dropping fast enough? On the real small Sabikis I've been using 1oz weights, might try 2oz to see if that gets their attention on the drop down.

I was using a number 8 on with a 2oz. I just diddnt see anything on the surface, I had to watch the fish finder, and still only get one at a time.

It keeps ice pretty good, but if I had to do it again I would get something with a zip closure, the roll top can be a pain when it's a little rough.
