Default Damn the wind!

I launched in Esc. before daylight, not too cold, but the wind was a nightmare for a paddle yak.

I got the opportunity to watch a guy in a native propel work the same area, dang that reverse is nice when battling wind.

I was throwing my basic 4 lures, rapala jerk bait, z-man paddler on 1/8” oz, jig, chart. Mr-17, & a spook.

I worked my way into an area where the wind would blow me down a bank, started throwing the jerk-bait. It wasn’t long before I found some willing trout. I snapped a pic. of the 1st one…after that, too much of a hassle to get my phone out, sorry.

I landed 2-3 small trout & lost 3-4 fish, 1 was a 10” mullet, I don’t know if he struck at the lure or I just got lucky…but before he flipped off at yak-side…I saw he was hooked clearly in the mouth, weird. Largest trout 16”, he came home w/ me.

Mid-day…

Went back out around 1:00 to cacth the tide change, this time in blackwater. I’m glad I did, I caught 2 rat reds and the 24” beauty in the pics.
The red inhaled my rapala!

All fish in the afternoon were also caught on the jerk-bait. I was only out for 2 hrs, wind was too much.

Nice work. I was headed to the upper bay with my 5 year old son to find some trout but it was blowing!! We went and found some sheepies instead.

Be careful, You fall into that water and you will then know what cold is. This time of the year you got about 20 minutes before you become paralyzed and drown. A 5 mill wetsuit under a jacket will save your life.

Nice report and pictures.

When it is windy where I saltwater fish on the upper Texas coast, I never go out since our shallow bay system muddies the water up very quickly and I never catch anything.

10-4 on that sealark.

Fortunately, water is only 5ft or less, mud is what I worry 'bout...can't pull your feet out of it.

5 yr. old, man...some of my best memories are fishing w/ dad when I was young.

The wind wasn't bad once you got back into the sloughs and such.
