Default Blackwater or somewhere in La.?

I had planned to fish a certain area Sunday morning, but when I got to my launch point, I hadn’t planned on the wind being a factor in my route.

So, knowing the area well I took the path less travelled, filmed part of it in case you want to see what my secret route looks like. I stopped the film before landmarks on the skyline gave the spot away.

Here’s the story of Sunday’s trip.

I launched at daylight Sunday morning and headed thru a series of small bayou channels that spread thru the marsh I wanted to fish. Tide was falling and being pushed out of the marsh by an east wind of 5-6 mph so there was pretty good water movement. I made my way thru the channels to where the marsh opened up to a large bowl shape protected cove w/ some feeder creeks.

Like all our bays, marsh, etc. being bowl shape means deeper water is in the middle and all the edges present a possible ambush point. Lots of targets to explore. I immediately spotted some bottleneck areas and green grass on the banks I focused on those areas and bait activity.

Long story short, I found a few schools of small trout 12-17” with the biggest being ‘bout 18”. Not necessarily what I was looking for but it bent the rod. A REAL surprise for how far back from the bay I was fishing was another small mangrove snapper. They seem to have expanded their range this year.

All fish released and everything caught on the MR17 shown in the pic.

All in all not a bad morning. This spot will produce better come fall and cooler weather due to the deep holes, feeder creeks and direct access to the bay.

The video link is of the canal trip like I said, edited before landmarks gave my position away, sorry ‘bout that.

You seem to have a great eye for location and understand what structure and contours will hold fish, I find your posts very helpful, so thanks.

I have the same Lizard Lick Ultimate FX 12 --love it ! I really don't understand why these hybrid kayak/canoes aren't more popular.

I like it also, it floats in less than a ft. of water. The biggest drawback is I can't stand up very well, it's tippy.

Chaps, I caught several small snappers this yr. from Indian Bayou all the way to the sound, I've not caught them this far N. in past years.
