Default Blackwater – 9/28/17

Absolutely beautiful morning!

Pushed off my launch point just before daylight, hit some dock lights while traveling to my targeted spot. I managed 1 small speck off the lights.

Arriving at my target area, there wasn’t much happening from a surface feeding standpoint. Every now & then, there was a slight surface ripple…fish were not coming to the surface this morning, instead it appeared they were doing a lot of chasing under water.

Over the next 1-1/2 hours, I managed 6-7 fish, lost a few more on short strikes. Here’s some pics. of the larger ones. All came on either a soft plastic or the mr17.

Back at launch at 7:30. There is a lot of small trout in the upper bays, lots of small trout. We definitely need cooler weather for the big ones to move in.

Action is action. Sometimes I feel the big numbers of smaller fish are supposed to remind us to appreciate them regardless of size.

Nice report! You're right, it was gorgeous out there this morning until the sun really got going.

Chris,

I almost hate to admit it, but I'll sit and play with a school of small trout way too long trying different stuff on them.

I figure it's a good mutual learning opportunity for me and the fish.
I teach them all the lures they should avoid next time and they agree to flip off the hook right by the kayak so I can say I almost caught them.

Nope let 'em all go Jason.

When I stopped for coffee I almost bought ice.
Didn't keep anything since I didn't have ice, the water still so warm, the fish are almost poached when you land them.

And yeah, I sort of kicked myself for NOT buying ice.

Sounds like a beautiful day, Bruce! Way to go getting some tight lines. I have not had a chance to fish more than twice in the last 2 and 1/2 months, life just getting in the way.
