Default Big Lagoon

I launched at midnight this morning very close to my house and set out to throw artificials at dock lights. The current was very strong unit 130 or so, and I didn't get much action until it slacked off. Between 130 and 430, I caught 8 dink specks between 12-14". I had an 18-19" flop off right at the kayak and had another around the same size flop out of my kayak. I'll use a net from now on. HAHA The fish were very active once I figured out the drift. Everything I landed on was on a Mirrodine. I did have several Matrix Shad get bit in half.

I made it over by Sherman Cove at 6:00. As I was headed over there, I noticed the wind picking up out of the east. My thought was "cool, the wind will help me out coming back." WRONG. Within 20 minutes, the chop was heavy enough with the wind that I had a very hard time controlling my kayak. Then, when I made it back around Trout Point, the waves picked up. Some were close to 3'. I couldn't get the the back fast enough... That was sketchy. Made it out of the water at 7:00.

I didn't get to bring anything home, but it was my first real trip out on the kayak.

Glad you made it home ok... Mother Nature can be very humbling in a kayak for sure.

I was seriously contemplating sending you a message about going offshore with y'all on Saturday. I couldn't move some commitments around though. Maybe next time.

Do you have any plans next weekend? We should hit Trout Point in the yaks!
I'm slumped with work until then, so it'll be nice to get the weekend off and catch some keepers! Haha, just shoot me a text if you're interested!
