Launched at sunrise to one of the most beautiful days on the gulf I've ever seen. No wind, no waves, no swell. Awesome! Only managed three cigs and three live squid after an hour. Tried everywhere from 6' to 40' for over an hour and regretted not bringing frozen bait. Didn't have this issue on Tuesday.

Got fed up and trolled two duster rigs with the cigs out to the public reefs and had no hits at all. Felt like seeing if my cellphone was accurate when it said I was over numbers and swapped out a duster with a bottom rig. In the process of swapping rigs, something smashed the other rod and went straight to the bottom. Checked GPS on the phone and I was right on structure. Couldn't get the fish out of the tetrahedron and broke off. Dropped a cig to bottom and got a 15" trigger and then got broke off two more times. Once on cigar minnow and another on a sand perch I sabiki'd up. Had a 6-7' shark come up and blow up on some bobos at one point, then circled me once.

Out of bait, I trolled a pink yozuri and green bomber on the way back landing a bobo. Halfway to shore something hit the bomber and I heard a huge splash and look back to see a shark tail fin thrashing back and forth all around the lure and then the shark, and whatever was on the lure was gone.

Got dinner (and cut bait/chum) and a great day of kayaking the Gulf!

Yeah, drives me bonkers not knowing. Probably something I can't keep anyway. Gag or ARS I'm guessing. I was in the cluster due west of the usual spot. Going to scout both spots again in a week or two and actually have bait this time.

Beware of AJs too at that cluster. Save the bobo belly for strip bait. Give you a holler in a few weeks, feed some snappah.

Sounds good. Only have three months of Florida fishing left, dying to get a nice king for the smoker and hope I win the fish lottery again with a BFT or Mahi before I leave. I'll shoot you a PM sometime when I get my leave days figured out.
