Default 7 Jan Destin Gulf Report

Launched out into the gulf this morning. Water temp at the surface was 63, water was very clear, and all the clouds and fog seemed to stay north. Hit a few spots and caught 5 red snapper with the largest one at about 25". I don't know how many my buddy caught, but he got a few too. All were photographed and released. I only posted pics of the biggest one since all the others look about the same with my camera set on my dash.
A sea turtle swam right up to us and checked us out for a few. Got a quick video on my old GoPro. Saw lots of dolphin cruising around too. Did not see the bait until we were heading back, and they were hanging around just outside the second sand bar. Water was calm and the wind was too. All in all, a great day.

Does anyone know that the last fish is in the pictures? I caught it and had not idea. Looked it up and may be a Jolthead Porgy or a Red Porgy?

Good to see someone else got out in the gulf today. There are some good spots off Destin.

Calhoun public entrance. I didnt realize this, but I found a few natural bottom spots out there too. I thought it was only all sand and artificial stuff. Found the first one like 1.5 miles out I think...crazy

Nice report. We'll have to finally meet up one of these times and get out there. This year is going to be a good one.

Definetely... I'm hoping to get some long trips in this season, so keep me posted if you ever plan on fishing the Destin/FWB/Seaside area. I remembered that you guys peddled out to the Phoenix last year. I scuba dove it over the summer and a huge school of AJs circled us on our way down...very cool experience. Would love to hook into a keeper AJ in the kayak.

I'd love to pedal out with you guys offshore, especially when the endangered R.S. get legal. Am determined to land a cobia on the outback this year.
