4/23 Big Lagoon Redfish
I have not been able to fish for about three weeks, so I was happy to have a few free hours this morning. I opted for kayak over boat and launched at 0630 in Big Lagoon and headed to an area that has produced specks and reds in the past. I fished hard for about an hour and a half with no takers, then headed back toward my launch area to make a 10am appt. On the way back, I ran across a school of mullet and tossed a Gulp plastic into the school. The second cast got slammed and the fight was on. Most reds give you a good fight, and then there are those that just bulldog you to death. He measured in at 26 inches and was pretty fat, but I let it go.
Reel- Penn Fierce 3000 with 10lb mono and 25lb fluorocarbon leader.
