Default 3/19 last minute trip

Well, like everyone else I went to sleep on Friday expecting to wake up to storms and high winds. I roll out of bed at 9am and realize it's a BEAUTIFUL day. Check the weather and it's questionable for later in the day. 11am rolls around and the hourly report looks promising.

Decided to chase reds and specks since I struck out on a short sheepie trip Friday afternoon (guess they've migrated towards the pass). Load up and launch at Hub Stacys off of innerity point. Fished for close to 4 hours without a bite.

I start the long haul back to the launch. About half way there as I'm crossing the bay I hit a hump thay jumps from 5 ft to 1ft. I stop and start throwing a mirror lure along the edge. Second cast produces a small, 8" speck. Two casts later I feel a thump.... odd for a suspending bait. Twitch again and another thump. Twitch two or three more times to get the bait to the surface and pause. Fish slams the bait and tail walks 15ft. Fight was short lived. Within seconds I had a solid 20" speck in the net.

No pictures today. Also still trying to figure out my new action cam. It has GREAT video quality, just have to figure out how to conserve battery.

Also having a hard time figuring that particular area out. The area has a ton of grass and plenty of edges. Maybe it's just me or maybe the rain just has that particular area messed up.

Regardless, it was a beautiful afternoon on the water!

It is about half way between Holiday Harbor Marina and Perdido Key Drive. The parking lot is a off the water, so you need a kayak cart. If you are fishing near Ono Point, it might save some time. I use it to avoid crossing the busy channel.
