Default 12/27/15 - Blackwater

I launched with a buddy at around 0615 this morning. We fished an area that was protected from the winds.

The first cast resulted in a keeper Trout on a Paul Brown's Original.

We continued to catch fish in the area and eventually I finished out my five fish limit with the biggest going a little over 18".

We had another buddy arrive and he decided to go North. We tracked him down and pedaled through the chop back to the protected areas. He hooked up in the same area we caught the Trout a few hours prior and boated a nice slot Red.

My next cast was crushed as soon as it hit the water. This Red finished off my drag washers and I will be going to see Keith for some maintenance.

The Red ended up measuring right at 30".

After the release my buddy was hooked up again and he landed another Red that measured 29".

During his fight my rudder line snapped and I had to be towed to the launch. Great day, great people, and some Tight Lines.

We made a choice to stay out of the rivers with the rising water levels and the chance of the East winds.

The wind was serious!

Did yall anchor at all or just drift cast?

A couple weeks ago, I was in the yak in similar conditions just fishing away.. I look up and had drifted a good 2 hour paddle back to the boat launch.. Smh

We stayed close to shore this morning and caught all of the fish in water that was 1-3ft deep.

When we went to find our buddy it was nasty!

The peddles really help to limit how far the wind blows you out into the bay.

I do. I had no problem peddling, my rudder went crazy and even with paddle I would have been all over the place.

They pedaled on both sides of me and off we went. It worked really well and we were leaving anyways.

Tim, we can get out there together sometime. I'm just sitting around waiting for colder weather!
