Default 10-11 - escambia

It was like driving thru clouds this morning as I eased down the highway before daylight headed to my launch point. Heavy fog, over-cast, falling tide pushed by the wind, should be a good morning I thought to myself.

After stopping for coffee & ice this time I pushed off the bank around 5:40.

Paddled about 1-1/2 mile to a dock light that survived the hurricane. Usually there are about a dozen lights to fish but only 2 docks remain on this stretch of the bay w/ power to the end of the dock. Many docks were board less, just pilings.

I could see the water being torn up as I got closer to the dock lights. I decided I’d ease behind the lights throwing with the wind to make a long and controlled cast. I had on a soft plastic paddle tail on 1/8 oz. stand-up jig head in a red/gold sorta color.

Waited till the fish were hitting bait again cast, fish on….boated a nice 20” trout. BUT while unhooking him my braid got really screwed up, drifted off the spot while fixing and retying everything. Swung back around but the school had been spooked.

Being pushed back to my launch by the wind I spent the remainder of the morning trying to locate the fish I knew were there. I could smell the trout, just couldn't locate the exact spot.

I did manage to hook and lose a nice red before hooking and landing the one in the photo.

Caught the red on a mr-17 and the trout on a jig. 26” red, 20” trout. off water at 8:00.

Nice job Bruce, you really provide a great image of your mornings out there! Makes me want to get up early and get out there, but man is it tough.

Yeah I know, can't blame you for getting some extra shut-eye when the weekend rolls around. I just really love fishing mornings. From about 3:00 am - 9:00 am is a perfect outing when the weather is warm in my opinion.

The fish were very active this morning, water was crystal clear, higher than normal but plenty salty.
