Default Stuck Choke Tube

I have a Beretta with a camo synthetic finish. I got lazy and never took the choke tube out to clean after it rained. That thing is about as frozen as I've ever seen one get. I've read about dipping it in oil for a few days, but am concerned that the oil will take the synthetic off of the barrel. Any suggestions will help.

Thanks

Is there enough gap to get break free down inbetween the tube and barrel? I believe the oil will effect the finish long term.

I like PB Blaster for anything rusted tight.....works when even WD40 cant. If you are worried about the finish....I'd hang the barrel with the choke down....and spray PB blaster into the barrel. Put a pan under it to let it drip. I'd repeat that a few times over a couple of hours...(or more) ...then carefully try and loosen the choke.
If that does not cut it....you could try to gently heat the barrel with a hair dryer and cool the choke with some "air in a can"....the kind you use to clean computers with.....that will cause the barrel to get larger while the choke contracts....hopefully separating the two long enough to remove the choke.
-of course this would only work on an internal choke...not one of the ones that thread onto the outside of the barrel.
-just my guess though....good luck!
_alternately..you could just oil the heck out of it, shoot it until it gets good and hot and try again.

Default Stuck choke

In the past I have used a MAP torch to gently warm everything and set the barrel in a bucket of transmisson fluid to cool. With your finish perhaps dipping it in hot water and then tranny fluid might work. Also, you can try cutting the end of a broom handle off and make a long tapered end to gently insert (with hammer) into the barrel for a snug fit. This way you can make a T handle or place a pipe wrench on so that you aren't making metal to metal contact. Hope this helps.

+1 PB Blaster is amazing on rust. 10x better than WD40. Don't know how it will react with the paint though either. Good idea from firefish to hang it and spray up to help. Or use a straw down the barrel from the receiver so you don't get any on any parts that don't need to be hit with it spraying up towards the receiver.
