Default Red dot on bolt action

I have a Ruger American 308 Compact and have struggled with optics. I hunt in YR which is mostly thick swamp. A variable scope works, but I mounted a Burris FastFire on it and it is a game changer. Talk about quick on the target. Rarely shoot over 50 yards so a variable scope is not really needed. Anybody else use a red dot on a bolt action?

50 yard shots! Why not use a 12 gauge?

Sounds like a great idea. I put a red dot on my 300 blackout ar pistol, sighted it for 50yds at the range but didnt get to try it out this season. Planning on putting one on my glockzilla 10mm also.

I use an old Winchester Model 50 with a 30" full choke barrel. It will put all 9 00 in a 10" circle at 35 yards. However I shot a big boar right up side the head with it a few weeks ago and did not recover him. Maybe my 308 with a 180 grain bullet would have stopped him.
