Default Prince inspired my hand loading...

As I was getting the 25-06 out of the gun safe and rounding up a handful of handloads for some critter control this weekend, his song immediately came to mind.
Purple Rain, Pur-uurple Rain...
I have always color coded my hand-load primers with a sharpie. Red on pistol rounds for self-defense, green on pistol rounds for a lighter load that is not so deafening to the ears, black on rifle rounds for hunting, etc. In each rifle caliber that I load a varmint round in, I use a purple dot on the primer. These loads consist of a lightweight (for that caliber) ballistic tip and a super hot load of a faster rifle powder. These rounds have powderpuffed crows (leaving two wings floating down like maple seeds), and generally leave mist and hair visible in the air after the target is already on the ground dead ( not used for deer hunting!)
The most memorable example was years ago when my buddy challenged me to take out a lake turtle (about as big as a shoebox) over two hundred yards away on his family farm pond.
I got down prone and let it rip while he was watching through binoculars. From the results, you'd think that turtle swallowed a hand grenade. I looked up from the scope and said, "I think I got it, huh?"As my buddy laughed, I put my eye back to the scope in time to still see large and small chunks hitting the water all around the target.( hence the rain monicer)
Purple Rain, Pur-uurple Rain...
Thanks, Prince. I am surely the reddest neck you ever inspired.
Well, for sure, this song will be in my mind until I let some lead loose!
