Default AR caliber question

I was thinking today about what caliber I would choose if I could choose ANY in an AR platform. This being said I have NO experience with them except pulling the trigger and what I may have read.
Now that being said.....What would it take to have on in 7mm-08?

I was guessing since it's a necked down .308 casing then all it would need is a 7mm-08 barrel, as long as it's a .308 set up to begin with. Is that right?

I was thinking what an awesome all around hunting rifle that'd be. Coyotes and deer alike.

I would think a 6.8 would be an easier fix.

A lot more money for an AR-10 platform than a 6.8 upper.

Eugene designed it for 5.56, so that's what it should be !!!!!
