Have 5 years experience deck handing out of Oahu Hawaii on friends boats. Most of my experience is geared toward Marlin, Ono, Large Ahi, and Mahi Mahi. Brought a few secret jedi lures from hawaii with me. Other than lures mostly fished with green stick, mold craft or live bait. Have landed plenty of marlin over 500. Lost a grander a year ago due to a bad line wrap up on the bill.
Best day- Were able to land 450 pounds of mahi out of season. Sold for over 5 a pound at the block.
Worst Day- 12ft seas for 14 hours without a single knockdown and then a broken water pump to fix.
Fishing starts the day before with getting meals and drinks prepared and doesn't end till the boat is safe and clean at home. Definitely not oblivious to that.
Sorry but I wouldn't be much help bottom fishing.
Have recommendations if needed.
Aloha and tight lines
