Kayak Angler Found Dead…

Why you should always be wearing your PFD while kayak fishing…

"Duck hunters found the body of a 52-year-old Newport News man about a mile from his kayak on the Chicahominy River Saturday afternoon," said an article on wavy.com.

"James Othel McDonald ‘s kayak was found anchored about 500 yards and about 50 feet from shore before a group of hunters found his body around 2:30 p.m. Nov. 1, said Lee Walker with the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries.

Initial reports indicate McDonald went fishing last night and his kayak rolled over. He was not found wearing a life-jacket, according to Walker. The accident remains under investigation by the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries."

I used to water ski in the Chickahominy River, about once a week. Not a very wide river. Must have been more to it than that. Of course, your point is well taken. Always wear your PFD and it's even more important when you are alone.
