I have a dry bag that contains 4 waters, Protein bars , tube o 5200 unsealed, survival blanket, 20# mono about 50 yards on a old fly reel and #4 hooks, fishbites. In the hold I keep an extra kayak paddle and 50ft para-cord wrapped around the shank of the paddle. in dry box flares and hand Held VHF Radio. Over kill but I have been kayaking around the ocean for several years and have never needed it but it has helped others out on the water.

This is a great thread. I will add:
an emergency blanket
a "watergun" toy that sucks up water when you pull a plunger, you can bail out a kayak with it and they are cheap and sold at all the beach shops
some rope for a bow line
extra sun block
compass
superglue, you can shut a wound with it (but dont use Krazy glue, its toxic)
extra sunglasses (though I admit I just thought of that and dont have a pair in my yak)
extra hat

Great thread.
I've been foolishly going offshore without a dry bag. That needs to change. Really appreciate the lists.

I don't carry emergency stuff in a dry bay but in ziplocks - the dry bag idea sounds much better. I carry a set of rain gear, first aid kit, heavy duty cutters (for when you or your buddy impale yourselves with a treble), water, extra Clif bars, etc.

I always carry a VHF, light and other signaling devices. I also have a blunt tip rescue knife bolted to my PFD.

Has cord to wear around neck. Bought one at WM for $5.95. Can use keypad through plastic. Never lose, or get smartphone wet again.
