Default Tide Reports and Bays

Hey all!

I am still getting used to reading surf reports so I have (hopefully) a stupid question:

How does the surf report apply to the bays? or even the river systems?

So tomorrow, the wind might be a bit rough but doable but the swells seem questionable for me. I would probably pass if I was launching in the gulf but what about Pensacola bay? Escambia Bay? Perdido bay/River?

How much do the swells affect the bays? Just trying to get a handle on this so I can judge whether I even have a chance to make it on the water by Bob Sikes.

Thank you for any help!

If I can suggest something, don't read a surf report for bay fishing, checkout the wind and tide then figure out wear's the best place to fish.......

Okay I understand that but my question is how can I utilize the reports to find when it will be a decent day to break out the yak?

Am I to understand that the swell, tide, and wind do not have any affect on the condition in the bays?

If that is what you're representing then I find that hard to believe. Because I have gone out in Pensacola and Escambia Bays when there was little to no wind but a large swell on the surf reports and ended up in a choppy mess. I have also seen the opposite where there is no swell with a good amount of wind and just been rolling around on perfectly smooth water.

I understand that the surf reports are not a perfect representation of the bays but that is why I'm asking. how can I read different reports to find decent days for the bays.

This is the site I use. I'm sure there are plenty of others. Just click on the zone you plan to fish. Its not always 100% correct, but it will give you an idea to make plans.

The chop in the bays are wind and vessel generated unless you're fishing the mouth of the pass.

I'm sure you already figured out where to duck the wind so here's a real time report. Site is kinda quirky but you can see the numbers change. Sometimes you have to wait for the map to load up.
