Default Simpson River 20 December

I managed to get a few hours on the water this afternoon - launched from the Simpson River launch. Ran into Katartizo and grgrobards as they were coming in. Had a minor medical emergency at the launch, impaled myself on a treble hook launching the boat. I carry heavy duty cutters and a first aid kit just for this and was able to push the barb through and cut it out. Quick bandage and good to go. Caught this redfish on a Mirrodine 17MR in 20" of water. I let this one go... Pelicans were diving in groups which is usually a good sign, but could not find any bulls lurking around.

BTW, that kayak launch slide is a great idea. Many thanks to our friends at the NWFLWMD.

The kayak launch definitely helps. I went a few days ago and followed the pelicans, but couldn't find the reds.

Good to see you Ferd. Nice catch. Ramp is a real blessing to me. I can put in or take out my fully loaded kayak in just a minute. I have been seeing pelicans dive a lot the last week or two, but have not caught a single fish in the area where they were diving. Must not be holding my mouth right. Hope the finger heals up well and doesn't give you any trouble.

Greg, there is a lot of bait under those birds, but the schools of bull reds have not shown up yet. Perhaps when we get some cold weather and the water cools down.

Nice pair of trout you caught...

It was nice to meet you Ferd. Nice looking red. I met Greg a couple weeks ago.
He was my inspiration to get a kayak.
I look forward to seeing you guys again and catchin some fish. I did catch my first fish in the kayak yesterday. It was only a small white trout, but at least I wasn't shut out for a fourth time!
See you guys next time.
By the way, the surgery you did on yourself was impressive!

Hope you are right Ferd. I remember the bulls you caught in Escambia. Believe it was last year.
