Ready for offshore

I've been kayak fishing for since 2013 in the waters of south east Louisiana. I recently upgraded to a peddle kayak and would like to start kayaking offshore. I've been reading up on the regulations and license requirements. There are a plethora of artificial reefs along the panhandle that I'd like to explore. I will be starting off with reefs within about 2-3 miles from shore. Eventually I'd like to go out as far as perhaps 6 miles. The ultimate goal would be to scuba and spearfish from my kayak. I've done some free diving in lake ponchartrain spearing sheepshead. If anybody has any local advice it'd be much appreciated. Safe places to park, good areas to launch from, any areas of strong current to avoid, etc... thanks in advance for your help.
