Default Pensacola Kayaking

Haven't kayaked Pensacola yet, but will be there 3rd week of June 16. We are staying in a house inside the red circle that has access to a dock on the sound side. I'm guessing that grass flat up by the bridge would be a pretty good spot for specks and reds, what about Little Sabine bay? How far out would I need to go off the beach to get into Kings. Are there Spanish out there like there are in Ft. Morgan? What about shark fishing the sound side?

That grass flat you're talking about is a jet ski rental playground. If it's a weekend, I'd recommend keeping clear. Continue west to the edge of your pic and there's a peninsula. It's an EPA facility. It's surrounded by jetties that are adjacent to deep water...good fishing spot. There are some decent grass flats in that area as well. Trolling the whole area around the bridge is a good bet for catching spanish mackeral.

Is there a no wake rule or anything around the bridge? Is it safe to kayak through there? I do most of my fishing during the week early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Very little is done during regular swimming hours.

If you'll be fishing at those times, you shouldn't have to worry about the rental skis. Any boats traveling under the bridge SHOULD be using the channel. There's a fishing pier that runs along side the bridge and you too should be careful not to encroach on any pier fishermen as you pass under. The pier is on the east side so if you plan to fish the bridge, it would be a good idea to cross under and stay on the west side for fishing. On weekdays you shouldn't have much trouble with other people.

Yes. All good. That "jet ski rental area" Yakavelli pointed out...well, I've been meaning to fish there when tourists are gone. Impossible to do in season. Tried, trust me. Loaded with virgin sea grass that almost no one fishes due watercraft traffic.

Fish are there. They get used to the noise like bass in a fresh water lake, but fishermen avoid thinking no fish are there due the traffic. Has to be loaded with fish.

Those other areas mentioned...nah, no fish there.
