I carried my kayak like that for a while (9ft) in my Mazda Tribute... never had any issues.

I put mine in the back of my yukon, front between the front seats the back only sticks out about a foot or so.

Yikes! Foam blocks on the roof and ratchet straps would be so much safer and better for the yak... The foam blocks are cheap and easy. Before I got my truck, my P13 rode on top of the Volvo...

You do what ya gotta do to get on the water! Several times over the years my wife has told me" you loose your mind when it comes time to go fishing". I will admit she is right.
I would bet all of us have done something that other folks may look at us and say, " what was that guy thinking?"
