Finally was able to get my first try on the yak today. I finished the day with about 7 trout but no good fish. We decided to drift the east side of the Santa Rosa sound fishing with 3' gulp shrimp and some mirrodine. Anyone know of a better place to try the yak?!?!?!

If your fishing out of the sound try launching out of Oriole Beach, head east to the Tiger Point channels. Work those docks early for reds, drift the flats between the channels for specks, I've pulled alot of nice ones out of there
good luck

I've been fishing the sound around Hurlburt Field and have done well the last 2 times out. I went through 3 dozen shrimp yesterday, and though I caught about 20 pigfish, I did get a decent black drum, a red, and a small trout. At another spot I scored a nice flounder. I guess that's an inshore slam. The Reds, Black Drum, and piggies were on live shrimp and the flounder on a bull minnow.

Last weekend I caught 2 nice legal reds, 2 nice black drum, had an even bigger fish break off and another good one get away.

How are you fishing the shrimp? Under a cork?

I fished them on a carolina rig. It usually didn't take more than 10-20 seconds to get a hit. In fact my fingers stayed pruned the whole time from constantly reaching into the bait bucket for another scrimp.

sounds like a good trade off to me. Has anyone fished the grass flats around NLO or Shorline drive lately?
