Default Neptune/Bloody Waters in the Gulf: 9-20-2010

Brandon and I did some bottom bumping today. It was a bit slow but still managed a few decent fish. I got 3 snapper, 3 spanish, and a leopard toadfish (ugly little beast!). It was also my inaugural trip into the Gulf with my new Ocean Kayak Prowler Trident 13footer. I really like the rod-pod hatch for stowing gear inside the hull for punching through surf. Unfortunately I don't have a bottom machine for it yet so I wasn't able to fish as precisely as I would have preferred, but the GPS did get me close enough.

Brandon put a hurtin on the gag's, 4 I believe, including a lucky keeper that was released (intentionally) to fight another day.

Nice new boat and setup. I fish an Ocean Kayak Drifter and love it. Glad to see other people fishing out of Ocean Kayaks around here... great yaks and built solid for offshore fishing.

Man, great catches, you've sold me on ocean kayaks, i'm looking at the prowler big game, since I'm calorie challenged. Looking at the beach makes me homesick, I left P'cola over 20yrs ago. Hopefully will move back one day. Those toadfish makes one cut the line to let them go. lol

Hey may, circle hooks and a dehooker get your hooks back 99% of the time. By the way, even though the prowler trident is only 29inches wide, it's substantially more stable than it looks. I can stand up inshore when it's calm and I've got a freakishly high center of gravity.

Same thing with the Drifter. So stable. Stand Up Paddle Board + Kayak!
