Default Navarre beach - Pensacola beach Area Closed for 8-10 months

If you want to drive the Navarre Beach to Pensacola beach road before next summer better do it today. It'll be closed for repairs again sure as shooting come Fri afternoon and with the wash outs and lack of $ it'll be 8-20 months until it's reopened.

The Park Circus has been pushing that Ferry idea for awhile but have yet to come up with the funds to get the boat. They built the dock and waiting area but that's about as far as it has gone.

I've heard from a couple of reliable sources that the road will always get rebuilt since the income from camping and day passes keeps people employed and provides funds for maintaining the park and Fort. They were even talking about building a raised road bed like you see around the swamps in LA if it gets washed out again.

The plan is to use RESTORE Act funds to get the ferries and subsidize the operation for ever more. With a little effort the ferries could and should have vehicle carrying capability.

The current roadway relies on being below the surrounding sand.
And it has worked well the past couple of times as the washover buries the road instead of washing it away.

We will see.
