Mounting rod holders

Hey everyone, I've been a long time lurker on the forums but don't post much (had a different username but can't remember password reset email). I've been yak fishing for a long time so I'm not new to this but I wanted some opinions on mounting a rod holder on my son's kayak. I have a Scotty with the deck mounting but can't access the inside due to it not having hatches. Would I be ok just using some machine screws or the self tapping screws like the ones used for carry handles or do I need to get the three way rivets? The hull is pretty thick ( close to a 1/4 inch and I will be using some marine goop to seal/adhere the mount. Sorry for the long winded post.

Do you have any trac mounts you can add them to?

I attach all my stuff with stainless wood screws, countersunk for the rod holders and put a little 5200 on each screw, which seals and also keeps them from backing out.
