Default Mayhem Inshore 11/08/09

Well after an eleven day break from fishing to get married and honeymoonI got back on the yak! We took the Regionalrep for Hobie (Jason Callaghan) fishing this morning and got into some small reds. It was WINDY! Tim caught a 35" and I caught aNICE Pompano...I unhooked him and held him up for a picture and you can guess what happend next:banghead grrrr rookie mistake...I was already salavating thinking of eating him. It was my first pomp in the bay. Well we went and called it a day because of the wind. About 2 oclock the wind dies so we go back out and killed it! 11 reds caught 4 went 27 inches and the other 7 went over 35! Tim got two on the flyrod and I caught one that went 40.5"

Total for the day.

19 Reds 18" to 40"

1 Pompano

A very secret spot called the Destin Bridge/pass. It was not smooth on the morning trip but the evening was nice.

Great job. I wish I knew a local place as good as where ya'll were at. I got my first bull in my yak on Thursday. On 8 lb test and a trout rod it was a blast. I was hoping to go out again, but it looks like Ida has other ideas...

What lure/bait are you using for the reds?

Nice haul...

I almost headed out there the same day. I went up in East Bay though to a protected spot to hide from the wind.

Its not so much what you throw as when you throw it. If you are targeting them mid day its kinda tough to get them to eat. Right before dark they will eat a hotdog. We throw 1/8oz jigheads wuth DOA CALs or Gulp! We have also had some success with capt mikes spoons and topwaters and tim gets them to eat a fly real good. Good Luck. If you throw a 5" mullet its pretty much a sure thing. I think artificial on light tackle is the most fun though.
