Hit Navarre beach at 0600 Saturday. No action until about 0830 when my wingman got two solid runs with one breaking off and one spitting the hook. At 0915 the Gotcha I had bouncing bottom got slammed. After a 30 minute battle on my trout rod with 15lb line Jimmy Ray came in for the assist with the gaff. It was hotter than hell by then so we called it after that and headed in. He went 40" and 21#. My best off the yak.
I was out there sat morning too. All I got was a very big shark on my 9/0 in about 40ft of water that straightened out my hook after a 15 min fight. I had a hard time catching bait. I was basically blind casting for hardtails, but got a few. Got a bit rough around noon so I called it quits. Got soaked coming in lol
Not necessarily because of the oil. Every year, this time of year is when we have A LOT of sharks close to shore. This does seem to be a good year for them, more likely because of the greater #s of small baitfish that were produced this year in response to the nutrients that were flushed out of the rivers this winter with all the rainfall.
