Default Labor Day Weekend Offshore Conditions?

Heading down to stay at Big Lagoon State Park with the family from Thurs. night to Monday afternoon. I was wanting to go a mile or 2 out to see about hooking up some Pelagics.

With Harvey creating a mess do you think the conditions are going to be favorable for a kayak? the forecast changes significantly every day I look at it. Just seeing if any locals remember historically how the conditions are in these types of circumstances.

You answered your own question with the second to last sentence. Impossible to say this far out.

Yeah I kinda figured as much. I have just been looking forward to getting back down to the Gulf and getting on the water. I am a little worried this vacation may be a wash, literally!

As we get closer to the dates I will see if anyone has any updates.

Here's some input

Be smart, safe and use good common sense (don't tempt fate with lighting or conditions). Check weather and surf forecast immediately before going. Good to have a radio.

Thanks! I will keep checking those sites as well. Looks like Sunday and Saturday are my best bets at this point. Kind of works out since the boy will be wanting to hit the beach first thing Friday.

I admittedly don't know a lot about such things, but I'm wondering how much Mississippi River and Mobile Bay water is being pushed this way by that storm? Isn't it better when we get pushes of water from the E & SE?

Sat and sunday look ok. The magicseaweed website is good. You can also check beach cams for actual conditions before you head to the beach.

Here is the NOAA marine forecast as of this morning for Pensacola to Pascagoula out to 20 NM:

Synopsis: A strong southerly wind flow will continue over the marine area through this evening as the remnants of Harvey move northeast into northern Mississippi. Higher winds and seas will be likely in scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms. Winds will gradually diminish through Friday, becoming light Friday night into early next week as a surface ridge of high pressure gradually builds west over the eastern and north central gulf.

Friday: West winds 13 to 18 knots becoming southwest 8 to 13 knots. Seas 2 to 4 feet. Chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Friday Night: Southwest winds 8 to 13 knots becoming northwest 5 to 10 knots. Seas around 2 feet. Chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Saturday: Northwest winds 3 to 8 knots becoming south. Seas 1 foot or less. Chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Saturday Night: Southwest winds 3 to 8 knots becoming west. Seas 1 foot or less. Slight chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Sunday: East winds 3 to 8 knots. Seas 1 foot or less. Chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Sunday Night: South winds 3 to 8 knots. Seas 1 foot or less. Chance of showers and thunderstorms.

Conditions look favorable. Water clarity will be greenish, but not yet affected by Harvey. Tight Lines!
