Hello All,

Here's a quick video of a King catch and release from the Kayak:

Not a really big King but still fun!

Catching is always more fun than fishing. Thanks for sharing.

The survival rate of a king after being brought out of the water is extremely small. Saying that I quickly throw them back in. A few weeks back I had a bull shark grab a king out of my hand as I went to tail grab it. No longer am I holding a fish in the water longer then I need to!

You are right JD, we try to get them dehooked as fast as possible unless we're gonna eat them (already had 4 ARS in the coolerbag).

I've talked to the kid about being aware of sharks and that they will often hit the fish right at the tail where he has a hold on it.

Get you one of those long wire dehookers. Run about a 4ft section of 50-65lb fluro/mono leader attached to your main line via a uni-uni. This thicker line makes it easy to grab and control the fish to gaff or release. If releasing and you dont want/need a photo, leave the king in the water and use the wire de hooker to pull the hooks out. It greatly enhances their chances of survival. Not to mention much safer for you as you are not bring in a fish full of razor sharp teeth and a bunch of hooks between your legs!
