Default Grassy Point

I'm thinking about spending the next decent weekend camping at Grassy Point. I've never fished or camped there, and hope yall May can give me a little info.

It appears from google earth that it would be good fishing this time of year as long as you find the right holes, but it appears to have some. Should I stay away for now or is it worth a shot? Not asking for specifics, just general info.

Is there any special instructions I need for camping there, registration, permits, things of that nature?

It also appears that kayak launching shouldn't be a problem, am I missing something?

Thanks guys!

We go there with the GCKFA twice a year - next overnighter is March 7-9. There are two camp sites, one on the bay, the other on the bayou. Port-a-potties at each, but no water or power. There is the possibility of black bears there, plan accordingly. You don't need a permit to camp there, but the NW FL WMD owns it and they don't allow alcohol. You can work south near and around Escribano Point, but I think working north in the ponds and cuts towards catfish basin is likely to be more productive. Wait until the sun is up and warms the shallows. Schools of reds will come through the bay in front of grassy point, but it is hit or miss. You can try the bayou, it holds fish. It also can be very shallow where it empties into the bay... Launching is a piece of cake at either location, although the Bayou site has a slightly higher degree of difficulty...

Here's a map and directions, a photo of the Bayou site and another of the Bay front site. Have fun!

No worries. If you go to the GCKFA website - the link is in my signature - there are photo galleries from our trips there. Some are from the bayou site, some from the bay front site. There is no doubt that it is one of the prettiest spots in the area. You are welcome to join us in March.
