A good start to my Fall season (Destin offshore)

Well, after another amazing summer in the Keys I'm back home and ready for action. With a finally nice weather forecast, Yaksquatch crashed at my place so we could get an unholy early start to the day, heading out just after 4AM on our way to the Miss Louise that I've heard so much about.

We met up with Brandon at the launch followed by Chaps and Gottafish at the wreck. It wasn't the glass calm conditions we were looking for, but the small grounds swells and slight breeze allowed us to make decent drifts. The action was slow, with a few small snapper and Brandon losing a "legalish" cobia. We headed further out to some pyramids once a boat showed up.

On the troll over to the pyramids, Chaps landed a 30inch king. Once there the current and wind picked up to an annoying level, allowing you time to get one drop. When we did hook fish we'd end up a 100yds away by the time we released them. I'm not quite sure what the tally was for everyone else, but I landed 11 red snapper and one gag using a bobo I had just caught for bait. It seemed like the total catch was one other gag and 10 reds between the rest of the guys (minus Brandon who was fishing another pyramid).

Of course, by the time we headed in the current had died along with the wind and it turned into a beautiful day on the water. We ended the trip sight casting ladyfish in the surf.

It's good to be back.

Welcome back, Taylor! That is a great program that you established down in the Keys for Boy Scouts across the country to have the fishing trip of a lifetime! I had only met you once so when the program was featured on the Outdoor Channel recently, I wasn't sure who to look for.

You were certainly slaying the red snapper on that one pyramid. I was happy with my 4 red snappers since it included my biggest yak snapper at 24-inches. I wound up with a KW offshore slam by also catching a grouper and a king. Good fishing day, good group of yakers to fish with. :)

Taylor, thanks for the schooling on how to catch Snapper. Overall it was a good day even though we battled the wind for the first half. I ended up with a King, a few red snapper, a couple remora, and a few lady fish.
