Default Is it even worth fishing the gulf right now?

Hey everyone! As the title says, is it even worth fishing the gulf right now or is everything in the bay and up river?

I have had mixed luck fishing around the pylons at Bob Sykes and no luck on the flats right now. I fish primarily either in the afternoons or during tidle changes so I'm looking for something that can give me more options

Gulf inshore is pretty much picked over or out of season. Deep offshore is just about constant year round. Sheephead should be spawning late feb. Good luck.

Flounder normally can be found nearshore in kayak distance. Otherwise not much in close thats open to target in the yak.

Grass flats are pretty quiet this time of year from what I understand, unless you get a nice stretch of warm weather, and even then I don't know.

Bridge pilings can produce but right now it's spotty. KyleForAWhile posted a video where they caught a bunch of sheepshead off Bob Sikes pilings, but they spent 4 hours without a bite before it turned on. Just a timing thing, I guess.

You could probably find some flounder in the gulf right now near structure, if you know spots to look, and you never know what might pick up a piece of bait just bottom-dropping if you're not necessarily looking for something you can keep.

Another month and the sheeps should be stacking up around the inshore structures like pilings and bay wrecks. On a nice day in late February there could be 7 or 8 boats all nosed into the first jetty in the Pass trying to jerk sheepsheads out!

I can tell you there are no flounder or very few flounder on any spot close to shore for a kayak. From pass to past Casino rubble. I would love to be proved wrong.

I'm in the same boat. It's been very slow this weekend. But the deer rut is about to kick off, so that should keep you occupied until the Sheephead spawn. Time to start fishing with a rifle!

If go Bob Sykes try and bring a small shovel or something to scrape the pillings.
