Default Battery got fish finder

What kind of battery does everyone use for the fish finder in a kayak? I was thinking of just buying a motorcycle or lawn mower battery, but thought I'd ask first. Also, do you put it in a waterproof case of some sort? Thanks.

Switched to 12v this year. Used Lithium AA pack for years, but like the 12v better.

Don't use a mower or motorcycle they can spill and cause problems . As suggested use a sealed gel cell battery. Make sure you get the correct charger a regular charger will work but could charge too fast and ruin the battery or cause an explosion if a gel cell is charged too fast...
